Normalt s\u00e5 g\u00f6r man detta genom att ta bort ratten, men eftersom blinkersen sitter i mitten p\u00e5 ratten \u00e4r det inte s\u00e5 enkelt att ta bort ratten. S\u00e5 ist\u00e4llet blev det till att h\u00e4nga upp och ner i kn\u00e4vecken som en f\u00e4llkniv under instrumentbr\u00e4dan.
